One would think it’s a no-brainer for a community to invest in trails or at least offer up a place to build them, right? Given the many benefits trails bring to a community, establishing a trail network should be a straightforward process; however, it’s anything but that. We found that out first-hand when it came to building Berm Park.
A YouTube channel with a couple of million followers, industry support, funding, connections with all of the best trail builders in the region, and an enthusiastic & supportive community should have made getting a public bike park in the Asheville area an easy process, but even with all of those resources, it wasn’t. And while we’ve heard a lot of people say that the success of Berm Park was due to the unique set of resources and people involved, it was the rest that was the most challenging.
