That looks really promising, it's awesome how people are jumping in and helping. Also great to see Daniel on camera, having read so much of his writing around here. :-)

The only trail we have around here that we can access quickly and ride regularly is built and maintained by a small club, and our neighbor is the main organizer for it. So I will be sawing fallen trees and cleaning leaves and repairing berms next Saturday as well, probably for the 5th time this season. It's actually fun if there is a large enough team of nice people who you can talk to and who are just of the volunteering type. Those are always fun to be around.

Trail maintenance is pretty high skilled work. You hit upon a bit of that but also doing the work efficiently requires a lot of muscle memory and a good eye.

I recall on one volunteer outing seeing two stout fellows working for about twenty minutes on cutting out some substantial roots from the trail tread. The group leader, a petite lady in her early sixties, watched them for a few minutes, and managed to do as much work as they had in about thirty seconds. Just because she knew how to use the tools and had the experience.

What you’re experiencing is the same thing we are still seeing recovered in Bentonville. It’s been almost six months and some of the trails are still closed. It’s great your community is as engaged as mine because you would see much longer needed to recover.

Can’t stress enough having trained and knowledgeable people working saws too. The biggest roadblock for Bentonville has been the lack of available BONDED companies available to do the work our volunteer organizations couldn’t handle safely.

There was a recent initiative to get everything sorted out to pre-tornado experience so hopefully next spring will be amazing with some significant improvement over the winter. I hope Western NC has the same experience and faster than we have seen this year.

How did Berm Park manage?

Hi, Seth. I’ve been following the progress down there and among people in Indiana, I’m pretty educated on what’s happened in western North Carolina. I’ll bet your audience has helped massively with the relief effort down there. And that’ll be because you maintain successful communication with us. Thanks for keeping us apprised. I’d like to help from afar if I can. Any plans to do video on where to donate to make the biggest impact/i.e so that every possible dollar goes to a bottle of water or diapers or food for those who need it?
